African Lion SafariThough a trip to the ancient Egyptian pyramids can be an interesting and awe-inspiring learning experience, few can describe the majesty of seeing the king of the wild: lions. An African lion safari takes tourists on an exciting outdoor trip through the wilderness of Africa to spot lions and other African wildlife. Few countries are more renowned for their African lion safari trips than Kenya. Of the plentiful number of game reserves in Kenya, the Masai Mara Game Reserve is one of the most respected due to its plentiful wildlife. Located in southwestern Kenya, the Masai Mara Game reserve is a common destination for lion safaris. Lions can easily be seen in the open plains of this area. However, lions are not the only attraction to be found there. The reserve is also home to cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas as far as big predators are concerned. Cheetahs, in particular, are a gem to see due to their natural beauty and grace, as well as their general scarcity. Finally, the Masai Mara Game Reserve is also a place in which the Great Migration can be observed. The Great Migration is the annual migration of millions of zebra, Thomson's gazelle and wildebeest through Africa. This phenomenon is worth a sight on its own, with tours available to see this spectacle in June and July. Because the Masai Mara Game Reserve is such a popular destination for an African lion safari, a number of lodges and camp sites can be found within the reserve. However, some care must be take not only to avoid dangerous wildlife, but also to not disturb the natural wildlife. Due to the large number of tourists that arrive at this international destination each year and the resulting building construction near the reserve for their accommodation, several native animal species in the reserve are disappearing. Visitors must respect the fragile nature of the ecosystem for it to continue to thrive. |
